Sales of the Strong Bad series of downloadable adventure games have more than doubled following the introduction of Wii’s upgraded storage solution, publisher Telltale Games said Thursday.

Last month, Nintendo said at Game Developers Conference that Wii owners would be able to save and play downloadable WiiWare games using an SD Card of up to 32 GB, instead of relying on the console’s 512 MB of built-in flash memory. Today’s statement from Telltale indicates that the new storage solution has indeed significantly increased, at least in the short term, the amount of games that Wii owners are willing to buy through the on-demand service.

Calling the move “a major step forward for episodic gaming,” Telltale CEO Dan Connors said that the publisher would be creating new games for WiiWare in the future: “We’re looking forward to even greater success on WiiWare with Strong Bad, as well as other projects.”
