The village of Mackworth and area of Speke aren't really touched by Hollywood glamour; the first is in the middle of a part of England that's as bleak as it is featureless while the other's at the furthest reaches of one of the North's busiest cities, and neither has the ring of an Elstree and Pinewood where quiet Sundays are often torn apart by the roar of the global blockbusters that are made there. But it's in these two places that this year's Bond is being crafted, Eurocom's inconspicuous offices responsible for a return to one of gaming's most fondly ...
Mortal Kombat has had it's ups and downs during it's long tenure as one of the premier fighting games. Cross-overs, changes in gameplay/style, successful or forgotten sequels - MK is like an old boxer, perhaps his glory days are long behind him but he still throws himself in the ring for one fight. The next Mortal Kombat, simply titled Mortal Kombat, is just what it sounds like, a back to basics, gore-fest that brings back the series most inspired characters and hearkens back to an era where MK ruled the arcades. Will the title will be able to truly rise to ...
Fighting Fantasy: The Warlock of Firetop Mountain is an action role-playing game modeled after the Fighting Fantasy adventure-novel franchise. Yet the game ignores the the most interesting aspect of the franchise--choosing between branching story paths. The disappointingly linear adventure unfolds in a dark 3D world full of hidden paths to explore, and the first-person perspective gives you an in-your-face view of your various monstruous enemies. Unfortunately, The Warlock of Firetop Mountain squanders what little potential it has, and the vexing control scheme, shallow combat, and tendency to freeze up randomly make this a crummy and frustrating dungeon schlep. In Fighting Fantasy, ...

We count down the best games in the history of the Japanese RPG tradition. If there's one series that completely embodies the charm of the Japanese role-playing game, it's Final Fantasy. This legendary series, which is now more than twenty years old, has grown into a universally recognizable entity, spawning spin-off action games, movies and more. With a heavy emphasis on character-driven stories and elaborate battle systems, it's easy to see why Final Fantasy has such a devoted following. One of the most popular debates among Final Fantasy enthusiasts is the classic question: Which Final Fantasy is the best? Here at IGN, ...

There's been quite a lot of controversy surrounding EA Sports' first entry into the mixed martial arts (MMA) gaming space. Dana White, the head of UFC, has been very outspoken about EA's first MMA offering, reportedly saying that any fighter who appears in the game will be banned from UFC for life and speaking out against EA Sports for doubting the legitimacy of MMA when White pitched the company on a UFC game years ago. Having recently seen EA Sports MMA in action at a press event in Chicago, rest assured that the sports gaming conglomerate is putting its full ...
How on Earth do you review a game like Modern Warfare 2? A behemoth of a game set to be the biggest entertainment launch of 2009 (and possibly 2010) by a country mile. A 200lbs school bully whose intimidating bulk pushed a dozen weedier triple-A titles into 2010. The most-anticipated game of the year – the decade, even, if you believe the TV ad's breathless hyperbole. The sequel to the 13 million-plus-selling original with a Metacritic rating of 94% and an IGN score of 9.4. A media event with no less than 35 videos already sitting on IGN's servers and ...
Steam has announced their Weekend Deal, knocking 40% off the price of Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare. The game runs $39.99 standard but can be picked up for only $23.99 through the weekend with the sale wrapping up Sunday, November 1. Not surprisingly, the sale coincides with the upcoming release of the title's sequel Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, which hits November 12. via: examiner
Want to spend your weekend getting your ass kicked by a Dr. Manhattan lookalike? Head on over to GamersGate. They're offering the PC version of Street Fighter IV for half the normal price. This weekend, you can pick up the popular fighting game for $20. Fighting games are usually considered a console genre but SF IV actually reviewed pretty well on the PC. I imagine you'll want to invest in a gamepad if you don't already have one, though. Console gamers don't have to spend a lot of money to pick up this game nowadays, either. It'll be re-released to stores soon for ...
The fourth Fallout 3 downloadable expansion, Point Lookout, takes you on a ferry ride to an area that time forgot. It's a swampy environment that sits just outside the Capital Wasteland filled with gnarled trees, foggy hillsides and inbred monstrosities that live in shacks. This is the area offered up for exploring in Point Lookout for those willing to pony up 800 Microsoft points (US $10), and it's one of the best expansions yet. The adventure begins with notice of a ferry boat that will take you to Point Lookout and a woman looking for her lost daughter, Nadine. This main ...
Guys like me that have been into gaming since before there were even graphics to bitch about have often hopped on our high horse and proclaimed today's games to be so coddling and hand-holding that one can't possibly get the same sense of accomplishment as the experiences in the days of yore. It's a bunch of old man chest thumping (for the most part), of course, but games going back even to the days of the NES often lacked the ability to save progress or even continue if you burned through all your lives. Demon's Souls isn't quite that hardcore, ...
New WarDevil screens have popped up on the game's official website. The site, previously just a mere static image of the game's protagonist, now scrolls through several different shots. The new screens show our hero facing off against some heavily armored soldiers, and could possibly even be gameplay shots. The oft-antagonized WarDevil has had a rough development cycle, describing it as 'Hellish' wouldn't even do it justice. The game was first announced by DigiGuys in 2004, set to launch exclusively on the PS3. 5 years later, we still only have a few teaser CG trailers. source:ps3center.
THE WWE SmackDown vs. Raw 2009 is a major improvement over last year's terribly flawed game. Yukes have tightening nearly everything up for this year's game, and it goes to show how just a few minor things can ball up into something big. SvR2009 is a return to form for the franchise, and fans of both the WWE and SmackDown games should really love this. Even though Midway's TNA Impact showed some potential, THQ has returned to smash it. From the start, the series has been a smash hit and a financial success for THQ. So it's no surprise that ...
Sometimes, a game comes along designed to cater to a specific audience, but if it doesn’t deliver on the technicals and overall gameplay, than what’s the point? It’s obvious that Pimp My Ride: Street Racing is directed towards those who are fans of the hip-hop culture, but with stodgy racing physics, a repetitive and bland presentation, and a significant lack of depth that hampers the entire experience, this pseudo-sequel falls flat. Believe it or not, Activision released the first Pimp My Ride back in 2006 and apparently, it did well enough to warrant a sequel…either that, or the budget was ...
